Still The One

The conventional wisdom and the punditocracy would have us believe that liberals are abandoning President Obama in droves; that their “disappointment” and disgruntlement with his not-lefty policies have forced them to retreat to their sweat lodges in Sedona where they are sucking down on lattes and cursing the day they bailed out on Dennis Kucinich.

Guess again. The president is still polling at 84% with liberals. That’s down 3 points from Inauguration Day in 2009.

If that was all that was voting, then there’s not a problem; game over. But the liberals don’t make up the majority of voters; hell, they barely make up the majority of Democrats. The big question is the so-called “independents,” and they are the most fickle of all. They like to keep their options open, and right now Mr. Obama is at 30% with them. It’s not that they lack conviction; they just like to be courted by both sides.

That reminds me of a line from Woody Allen: “Bisexuality immediately doubles your chances for a date on Saturday night.”
