Virginia Mansplaining

Watching his political future going up in flames, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) decided that it was not a good idea for the state of Virginia to compel women to undergo a medically invasive procedure that basically constitutes rape.

“Mandating an invasive procedure in order to give informed consent is not a proper role for the state,” McDonnell said in a statement. “No person should be directed to undergo an invasive procedure by the state, without their consent, as a precondition to another medical procedure.” He did not comment further.

That’s because the only comment that could come after that is “No shit, Sherlock.”

It’s a relief that he finally realized this — and that perhaps it occurs to him that the mostly-male gang that came up with the law were out of touch with Planet Earth — but it truly boggles the mind that in the second decade of the 21st century we’re still letting this kind of patriarchy have any power in America. Seriously.
