I didn’t plan it that way, but both of today’s posts below illustrate how the federal and state interests work at establishing or protecting our rights and lives as citizens and people. The federal Defense of Marriage Act intrudes on the states’ rights regarding marriage equality, and the State of Florida intrudes on the voters’ rights to have unfettered access to the polls. In both cases, federal courts ruled yesterday; one in favor of the states regarding establishing marriage laws; the other in favor of the federal law that protects voters rights. And, coincidentally or not, they both dropped turds into two punchbowls of right-wing ideology: homophobia and voter suppression.
