The Slurp

I didn’t stay up to watch Sen. Marco Rubio’s response to the State of the Union, but I’m reading that he did okay until he went dry — literally.

The video shows him lunging for a bottle of water and audibly slurping it, accompanied by an off-camera voice saying “uh oh.”  That was CNN’s Wolf Blitzer reacting to the awkward moment.

Political futures are made and lost on moments like this, but I think it’s more important that Sen. Rubio was one of the 22 Republicans who voted against reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, citing, among other things, the fact that it extended coverage to Native Americans.

Additionally, I have concerns regarding the conferring of criminal jurisdiction to some Indian tribal governments over all persons in Indian country, including non-Indians.

Cottonmouth stage-fright is one thing.  Being a right-wing misogynistic jerk is another.

3 barks and woofs on “The Slurp

  1. I kept wondering if he (the repugs) watched the same speech I did. They just keep repeating the same tired “taxes and spending” meme. What a bunch of tools.

  2. I watched about five minutes of “Morning Joe” while I made beds. I noted Rubio’s speech was headlined “Water-bottle Gate” which puzzled me until someone around that table explained the gap of the evening. Why is it the Republicans can’t find someone to do what seems to be a new “tradition”, the oppositional response the President’s SOTU, who can sound even a bit like a pro? I’m told that Rubio looked and sounded like he was running for city council or president of his fraternity, not the leader of the Free World.
