Question of the Day

It’s a week of holidays coming up here in North America: Canada Day on Monday, and Independence Day here in the U.S. on Thursday.

What are your plans for the summer holiday(s)?

I’ll hang out my Maple Leaf on Monday in solidarity with my friends in the True North, and go to the fireworks at the Biltmore in Coral Gables on Thursday.

4 barks and woofs on “Question of the Day

  1. The schedule for next week hasn’t been posted yet, so I don’t know if I’ll be working the 4th or not. Either way, I’ll be able to enjoy laste afternoon BBQ on the grill and then decamp to one of the local fireworks shows.

  2. Birthday party for a friend on the fourth, working the fifth, taking the following Monday and Tuesday off. May take a day trip or two if there’s somewhere around that isn’t on fire.

  3. The husband will do steaks on the barbecue. Then we hunker down in our fortress and monitor the neighborhood artillery fire, hoping as always that no one sets our roof or yard aflame. We’re old and cranky that way.

  4. We go to a yearly pig roast celebration thrown by a friend whose house is on the banks of the Maumee River, a scenic river that runs through our town. The villages on either side of the river do the fireworks and picnickers watch from the shore and boaters from the water. By the time it’s dark enough for the light show, around 10:30 or 11:00, we two have given up and headed home. Been there, done that for decades so there’s no decision to be made. The sounds of celebration from Toledo to the north and the surrounding suburbs continue into the early morning hours, but being hard of hearing my sleep isn’t interrupted at all. Happy Fourth!
