Desperately Seeking Relevance

Feeling his fame fading away like Shaun Cassidy at a Nirvana concert, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) suggests the way to end poverty in America is to deny poor people health insurance.

“For millions of Americans living in poverty, the American Dream does not seem reachable — and that’s unacceptable,” he said Sunday. “After 50 years, isn’t it time to declare big government’s war on poverty a failure?”

[…]

“This agenda would create an economy with more good-paying middle class jobs and a government with less debt,” he said Sunday. “It would repeal ObamaCare and it would replace it with more affordable health care options. It would save and strengthen our retirement programs for future generations.”

Seeing as how Obamacare provides more affordable healthcare options for people who were denied coverage because they had acne as a teenager, seeing as how it is projected to slow spending on healthcare dramatically, and seeing how the Republicans have yet to come up with anything other than brickbats and repeal votes, it’s pretty obvious that Mr. Rubio is grasping and gasping to regain his glory days of being a cover model for Time magazine.

One bark on “Desperately Seeking Relevance

  1. Wow.

So, according to Rubio, the War on Poverty is a failure, so we should just stop fighting it. There’s “the poor will always be with us” – and then there’s “…so we should plan to add to their ranks.”

I’m sure Rubio does have ideas about “more affordable health care options” – if by that he means “more affordable health care so long as you don’t get sick.” Illness and injury are so expensive after all.
