That’s a muscovy duck. My Peterson says they’re native to tropical America, particularly Florida and Texas and have now become feral in some areas of Florida. As you can easily see here. He should make a nice duck dinner if you can catch him.
Earlier that day a mama duck escorted her ducklings through the yard picking up their lunch. I don’t know how the little ones got in; the gates were closed. But it was nice to have them come by.
