Boxing Day

I had a wonderful time last night courtesy of Bob and the Old Professor, joined by close friends Dan and Kathy, Ira and Susan, Bill and Terri, Joel, Joanne, and Chris, and Chiz and Jordana, sharing a great meal and good times.  I am very grateful to have such good friends.

I hope you had a good time yesterday with your friends and family if you celebrated.  What did you do?

Today is Boxing Day.  In countries and places with a British heritage, it’s an official holiday when, according to Wikipedia, “servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a “Christmas box”, from their bosses[1] or employers.”  Hmm.  I don’t have any servants, and I already got a box of chocolates from my boss, so I guess I’ll just hang out around the house and catch up on a crossword or two.

3 barks and woofs on “Boxing Day

  1. Boxing Day? As servant to 2 cats, I guess there won’t be any presents (of the good kind!). I gave them an empty box to play in, so our roles are reversed.

  2. The not-for-profit organization that runs the retirement “village” we live in has a yearly dinner with recognition of the “associates”, the people who truly run the place. We’re all invited to participate and send a thank-you check to be pooled and divided among the staff, the men who run the mowers, prune the bushes, clean up after us, the office people and all the women who tend the infirm in the assisted living wing. It’s a huge payroll as you can see. We skip the prayer service and the buffet, but send a nice fat check. Maybe you can describe it as a form of Boxing Day, but it happens the second week in December.
