Happy 50th birthday, Mame.
I have very few regrets in life. One of them was the tryout of Mame was running at the Schubert theater on south Board Street in Philadelhia during my first fall semester of the art school I was going to at Pine and Broad Streets a block away for the theater. I walked pass the poster everyday for the run of the tryout. I didn’t know the story but the poster intrigued me. I looked at the price for a matinee. It was $16.50 which was a lot at the time. The only reason I didn’t go to see the show was I had a class Wednesday afternoon run by an egomaniac. At the time I would have needed an excuse note from a doctor to not show up for class. That would have cost another $5. Oh well.
Using an inflation calculator $16.50 in 1966 is $121.77 in today’s money.
