We All Agree On That

Glenn Thrush at the New York Times:

Hurricane Harvey was the rarest of disasters to strike during the Trump presidency — a maelstrom not of Mr. Trump’s making, and one that offers him an opportunity to recapture some of the unifying power of his office he has squandered in recent weeks.

As numerous other commentators have pointed out, Trump can’t “recapture” the “unifying power of his office” since he has never had it, exercised it, or shown the slightest interest in using it even if he was capable of it, which I and most of the people in this country with brain power above a goldfish are breathtakingly aware that he is not.

He proved that inability yesterday when he ventured down to Texas, didn’t go to Houston, didn’t mention the dead or injured, congratulated his FEMA director for getting on TV, and raved about the turnout.

In one respect, though, Trump has unified a lot of people: they all agree that he is a vulgar, shallow, self-aggrandizing narcissist.

One bark on “We All Agree On That

  1. He’s going back Saturday for another bit of face time on TV. He can’t resist. His first response to what he saw of the first 24 hours of Harvey was “wow”. Like wow this is the biggest, the hugest, the most wonderful opportunity for me to go there and join in the fun. Wow.
