Spirit Goes Silent

From the NY Times:

The Mars Spirit rover has stopped sending intelligible data back to Earth in the past 24 hours, mission officials said today. The project manager, Peter C. Theisinger, described the problem as “a very serious anomaly on the vehicle.”

There could be any number of things that could have happened, including a hardware or software problem on the rover or the transmittal satellite orbiting Mars.

Or maybe it was…

  • Klingons doing target practice.
  • A suicide Martian rover attack.
  • Failure of OnStar.
  • Someone accidentally hit CTRL ALT DEL.
  • It picked up the SOTU transmission which fried the logic circuits.
  • Any other ideas?
