Friday – Long Weekend – Wrap Up

First, thanks to whomever it was yesterday morning at 11:31 a.m. that pushed the Site Meter over 6,000. That’s a thousand visits in less than two weeks. I must be doing something right. Thanks, everybody!

Second, a cranky gripe. My apartment complex has switched cable providers from Adelphia to MediaWorks and I lost Bravo and TV Land in the transition. Also, the Weather Channel no longer carries the local forecast; when they go to “Local on the 8’s” all I get is national weather capsules. I’ve called and e-mailed the company and I have received assurances they would “consider” my request. Well, huh. If you’d like to help me in my quest to get Bravo back, drop me an e-mail and I’ll provide you with the information you need to contact MediaWorks.

Okay, now for the weekly look around at the TLC and others to see what’s on their minds:

  • Steve Bates at Yellow Doggerel Democrat points to a great posting by Charles 2 of The Fulcrum at The Liberal Coalition website called Get Me a Flight Surgeon and adds some thoughts of his own. Well worth the read, and if you don’t check out all three sites (Steve, Charles, and TLC) on a regular basis, why not? (PS: Thanks, Steve, for the comment on the NCLB post.)
  • Lots of bloggers are writing about Bush’s missing National Guard records. Among them, WTF Is It Now?? and Rubber Hose visit the WH press room, and the gang at corrente has a whole raft of stories and links.
  • Happy Furry Puppy Story Time runs down the Top Ten songs used to drive Gen. Noriega out of his palace in Panama. They would drive me out, too.
  • For something completely different and amazing, check out the photos on Indigo Ocean.
  • Pen-Elayne shares the story of visiting a friend in a VA Hospital.
  • NTodd is playing chess, volleyball, and telling lightbulb jokes. Might it be a touch of cabin fever, eh? Can’t really blame him – they’re getting another blast of winter up there. (Meanwhile, check out the weather down here.)
  • Jeff at Speedkill has a reasonable compromise (remember those?) to offer on the issue of gay marriage, and Chris also looks at how two people in love threaten the welfare of the nation (Not!)
  • The now-famous Respectful of Otters looks into new FHA ideas for helping people buy homes. I’m especially interested since I’m looking into doing that myself, regardless of my cable “choices.”
  • Echidne has a well-rounded (sorry) posting about anatomy.
  • And please check out our newest members of TLC: Iddybud, archy, Rick’s Cafe Americain, Words on a Page, and Make Me a Commentator. We are nothing if not eclectic.
  • And there’s also a lot of other good stuff out there too, including Beastofsound and all the new additions to the BBWW blog roll. Plenty of stuff to read when you get bored at work…or, if you’re like me, you get Monday off.
