Did You Hear That?

My friend Bob said that he noted something different about President Bush when he was speaking at the D-Day ceremonies in France – he was articulate. He said “America,” not “Muricuh.” He rediscovering the letter “G” at the end of words. The faux Texas twang was barely noticeable (made all the more apparent after hearing his father speak in his patrician Connecticut tones as he paid tribute to Reagan). I basically avoided network TV yesterday except for Judgement at Nuremberg on TCM, the first hour of the Tonys (the only person I knew personally who was up for an award didn’t win), and the season finale of The Sopranos, so I didn’t hear Bush speak. Did anyone else notice this subtle change?
