Guessing Games

John Kerry is vetting his veep candidates. He’s talked to Dick Gephardt, John Edwards, Wes Clark, and, for all I know, Teddy the Wonder Lizard. The Faithful Correspondent floated the name of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, who happens to be the daughter of former Ohio governor John J. Gilligan (1971-1975). (Full disclosure: I worked on the Gilligan campaign when I was a senior in high school.)

My guess is that it will be someone with impeccable foreign policy credentials, a moderate but respectably Democratic record in domestic issues, and fully capable of being president. Governor Sebelius would be a nice fit for demographics – Midwestern, female, strong on education issues – but my money’s on one of the white males mentioned above.

I could be wrong.
