Hedging Their Bet

The Massachusetts GOP is already sniffing out candidates to fill the vacancy that will occur when John Kerry resigns his seat in the Senate to become president.

The Democrats have made no secret that they’re looking at a lot of strong candidates to run for the vacancy, including Barney Frank and Ed Markey. That makes sense that they would plan ahead, sure of victory. But the cocksure Republicans talking about who to run? Are they just being prepared, or do they have a foreboding of defeat coming? Either way, it sends an interesting message.
