Debate Prep on Campus

I went to the University of Miami’s Jerry Herman Ring Theatre last night to see a final dress rehearsal of their season’s first show, Tintypes. Based on news stories, I was expecting to have to run a phalanx of security and I.D. checks as the university prepares for the presidential debate tomorrow night. But other than some portable highway signs that told me certain streets would be blocked off starting tonight, there were no outward signs of enhanced security. Students and faculty strolled around the campus, and no one asked me where I was going or what I was doing there. I carried my passport just in case my driver’s license wasn’t enough should someone official ask me for identification.

By the way, the show was very good.
