Hastert on Drugs

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert implied darkly that billionaire George Soros, a financial backer of liberal causes, earned some of his money through dealings with drug lords – and we’re not talking about Eli Lily. Josh Marshall at TPM has been following this story (here, here, and here), and Jack Shafer in Slate wraps it up nicely: Hastert’s attack is on the lunatic level of Lyndon LaRouche (remember him? the guy who thinks Queen Elizabeth II is a dope peddler?), and it’s amazing that such a man is next in line to the Presidency after the faltering heart of Dick Cheney.
