The Other Guy

One thing I noticed in the presidential debate last week: President Bush never referred to Senator Kerry by name; he’s always “my opponent.” And watching Bush on campaign stops, he does that as well: “My opponent doesn’t believe that we should be fighting this war….” and so on.

There are probably two reasons for this. Either Mr. Bush does not wish to raise Senator Kerry to his own level and show him as someone worthy of being his opponent, or he can’t remember who he’s running against.
