Back to Work

The long weekend is over. No more sleeping in until 6 a.m. No more leisurely breakfasts at the dining table; back to the bowl of Grape Nuts scarfed down while reading the e-mail. And back to the pre-dawn drive to the office.

Sunday I took the folks down to Key Largo for a day of appreciating the nature of the mangrove swamps and sea shore at the John Pennekamp State Park, followed by a nice seafood lunch at Snapper’s. The drive down was nice, but the trip back caught us in the maelstrom of all the other visitors heading home from the long weekend…long lines at the toll booths at the Card Sound Road. We got back in time to watch the Dolphins beat the 49’ers; they’re now the best of the worst.

We saw Kinsey last night. It’s a good film, and ironic in these times; Dr. Kinsey raised a furor fifty years ago with his examination of human sexuality, and we’re still battling the demons of prudery and ignorance. Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, and Peter Sarsgaard all gave magnificent performances; look for a cameo by Lynn Redgrave.

Now if I can only remember where I stashed the new supply of coffee filters…
