On This Date…

  • In 1970 I left Perrysburg, Ohio, in my 1957 Chevrolet station wagon bound for a summer job in Plainfield, Vermont, where I spent about two months baling hay, milking cows, cleaning out barns, and doing other farm chores. I drove through Canada, entering in Windsor and taking the 401 up to Montreal. I spent the night in Kingston, and arrived in Plainfield the next afternoon. The number one song on the radio was Close to You by the Carpenters.
  • In 1948 my parents were married in St. Louis. They’re still together and in good health and good spirits. Happy 57th, Mom and Dad.
