Hurricane Wilma Update

They’re evacuating the Keys and closing hotels in Naples — I know that because we had to cancel a car club event planned for this weekend over there. The school system is bracing for it, too; making plans to open shelters and getting paperwork like payroll done early. Monroe County — the Keys — will close their schools on Thursday and Friday.

Here’s where the storm stands at the 11:00 a.m. update:

The models haven’t changed since the last update: they’re still showing the tracks running from the southwest to the northeast across the state from between Naples and Tampa to Vero Beach and Melbourne. That’s north of here, but still too close for comfort.

Update 3:32 p.m.: The models are now all over the map — literally. Some show Wilma still heading for Southwest Florida, others show it turning back to the Caribbean, another show it heading for the Yucatan before turning and heading back to the Caymans. Who knows…?
