It’s Just Business as Usual

Robert Steinback in the Miami Herald:

The Dubai Ports World deal is business, and this administration never, ever, endorses a policy that doesn’t benefit its corporate allies. The administration’s proposed private Social Security and health insurance accounts would profit Wall Street; its energy policies help oil companies; its Medicare revisions helped pharmaceutical companies; its public land policies favor logging, mining and ranching interests; its air- and water-quality policies help power companies; its no-bid contracts in Iraq help Halliburton and other defense contractors; its tax cuts overwhelmingly benefit corporations and their richest patrons — and on it goes. Even national security, it seems, takes a back seat to business.
