Another One

The Republicans had another debate last night. It was on FOX, which is why I missed it.

Apparently the most interesting moment came when Rep. Ron Paul suggested that the United States and its bombings in Iraq were the cause of the attacks of September 11, 2001. Rudy Giuliani took exception to that. (Everybody knows that it was the queers, the abortionists, the ACLU, and the hand of God, according to the late Jerry Falwell.)

But the two people who could make the race interesting — Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson — didn’t show up. It would have been fun to have Newt expound at great length on how perfectly wonderful he is (not to mention humble), and Mr. Thompson could explain just why it is that a one-and-a-third term Republican senator with little foreign policy experience would be the best candidate to face a Democratic field that includes a one-term senator with little foreign policy experience.

No wonder the Republicans are asking if this is the best that they can do, especially when they have such high standards to live up to thanks to the current occupant of the office.
