On This Date

On October 1, 1908, the Ford Motor Company introduced the Model T.

It wasn’t the first car produced by Ford, but it was considered the first car that could be owned by the average citizen, costing $850 – not a cheap price back then, but still less than the $2,000 that the average car cost in 1908 – and it was the first large-scale assembly-line built car. It pretty much revolutionized the auto industry and, as they said then, “put America on wheels.”

Of course, we’ve been paying for that revolution ever since…
