The Big Switch

Today is supposed to be the day when the weather in Florida goes from the hot and humid rainy season to the warm and comparatively dry season.

Well, it’s not like it’s supposed to happen all at once, but I’ve been noticing that the weather has been moderating a little over the last week or so; I was able to work in the yard for an hour or so without becoming wringing wet with sweat, and when I went out to fetch the paper yesterday morning I didn’t feel like I was being smothered by a Turkish towel.

And — knock wood — we’ve managed to get to the middle of October without a hurricane getting close to Miami. There are a couple of disturbances way down in the western Caribbean, but so far they (Invests 98 and 99) don’t look to be much more than some low pressure systems winding up.

Anyway, this dry season is my idea of winter.
