On the Face of It

So Matt Drudge posts an unflattering picture of Hillary Clinton on the web and suddenly the Orcosphere is asking if she’s too unattractive to be president and whether or not world leaders are going to take her seriously if she doesn’t look like a Vogue cover model.

Aside from the fact that the people who are asking these questions are people like Matt Drudge and Rush Limbaugh, both of whom by the grace of the fates hide behind the cover of their media (think of the term “a face for radio”), it’s just another volley in the campaign of stupid diversions, along the lines of “which presidential candidate would you want to have a beer with” (I think the current occupant has pretty well answered that one) or “name your favorite boy band.”

The righties shrug and say, “Hey, it may be shallow but here in America we have a tradition of voting on issues like that, so what can we do?” We also had the traditions of burning witches at the stake and keeping slaves, but we got over that. But if the right wing has gotten that desperate, then she must be really scaring the pants off them.
