This weekend is the annual Art Deco Festival on Miami Beach, celebrating the art and architecture of Miami Beach’s art deco era. My car club is a major participant, bringing in cars from the era — and before and after — to add to the festivities.
It started off last night with a parade up Ocean Drive with marching bands and all the usual parade elements, plus twenty or so classic cars and convertibles, including moderns, which meant my Mustang. The Grand Marshall was Doris Eaton, who at the age of 103, is the last of the original Zeigfeld girls from the 1920’s.
The festival itself gets underway today on Ocean Drive from 5th to 14th Streets with all the fixings: exhibits, vendors, entertainment, and our classic cars. If it’s anything like last year (when Billy Joel joined in the fun), it should be a great time.
