Question of the Day

Tastes change as we get older, no doubt. When I was a kid, my favorite candy bar was Three Musketeers and my favorite gum was Wrigley’s Spearmint. Today I can’t remember the last time I had a Three Musketeers, having gone over to Snickers back in the 1970’s, and I haven’t chewed gum in decades. But there’s one flavor I still remember from childhood that I still like: Vernor’s ginger soda. It used to be available only in the Detroit area, but they’ve gone nationwide and I was pleasantly surprised to see it in the store yesterday here in Miami. I bought a twelve-pack, and I had one with my lunch. It was just as I remembered it as a kid; this is no pale soft drink but a bold and sharp taste in contrast to other ginger ales, notably Canada Dry, and a burp from it — especially through your nose — is a religious experience. It will clear your sinuses. So…

What’s the one taste from childhood you still enjoy as an adult?
