Tropical Update

The latest advisory on Hurricane Ike.

A hurricane watch has been posted for the Keys from Ocean Reef to Key West. That pretty much encompasses the whole island chain. Mandatory evacuations are underway in Key West, the drawbridges are being locked down, and tolls have been suspended on Card Sound Road and I-75 (Alligator Alley) east and west. Now that it’s done a number on the Turks and Caicos, it will head to Cuba, then out into the Gulf of Mexico, with its eye, so to speak, on Texas.

Schools in Miami-Dade and Broward (Fort Lauderdale) Counties will be open tomorrow. So they must feel confident that we’re in the safe zone.
