Rahm It

I am amused at the response of some people by the appointment of Rahm Emmanuel as Chief of Staff in the Obama administration.

House Minority Leader John Boehner questioned Obama’s selection.

“This is an ironic choice for a president-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil and govern from the center,” he said in a statement.

I don’t think Mr. Obama ever said he would “govern from the center,” but whatever. Here’s a little lesson for the Republicans: you can be partisan — even fiercely so — and you can still be civil about it. The idea of politics with a vengeance is Karl Rove’s shtick.

I think it is both ironic and not a little comical that the Republicans now seem to be worrying about how they’re going to be treated by the new administration. It’s like they’re afraid they’re going to be treated as rottenly by the Democrats as the Democrats were treated by the Republicans.
