Question of the Day

With the winter solstice approaching (on Sunday) and a blizzard in the upper Midwest…

Change of seasons: vital to your sanity, nice to have, overrated interruption of the sunshine?

Contrary to popular opinion, we do have seasons here in South Florida: hurricane and tourist. Actually, there is a noticeable difference between winter and summer, and it’s not just the length of daylight and humidity. Trees change leaves, although not as dramatically as up north, and flowering shrubs like my hibiscus go into full show. When I lived up north I dreaded the darkness and grey skies of winter, not to mention the dry indoor air, the carpet shocks, and the hours of scraping snow and kicking ice boogers off the car. It may get sticky and uncomfortable at times here in South Florida in July, but at least you don’t have to shovel it.
