Short Takes

Ground War — Israeli forces enter the Gaza Strip. This will not end well for anybody.

Minnesota Recount Complete — Al Franken is ahead by 225 votes; Coleman will go to court.

More Jobless Aid — The Obama stimulus package will include “major expansion” of unemployment compensation and health care. The GOP will scream “Socialism!” while the people who get it will breathe a little easier.

They Spy… A Lot — Maryland police monitored a lot more advocacy groups than previously reported.

Still Clueless — Ben Feller at the AP summarizes Bush’s personality:

Bush is insistently — some say unforgivably — optimistic, no matter how low his poll numbers get. “Every day has been pretty joyous,” he said recently, summing up one of the hardest presidencies ever known.

2008 Was an Average Year — At least as far as rainfall was concerned in South Florida.

  1. Re: MD spying: advocacy groups threaten the status quo, especially nonviolent activists, so of course the State feels compelled to spy!

Re: the new look: I’ve been enjoying it, but since I just discovered I can link comments to my FB account, it’s even cooler now!
