Calling President Obama a “socialist” is so 2008, so Saul Anuzis, a former chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, tries out another label.
“We’ve so overused the word ‘socialism’ that it no longer has the negative connotation it had 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago,” Mr. Anuzis said. “Fascism — everybody still thinks that’s a bad thing.”
So as far as the Republicans are concerned, it doesn’t matter what the word actually means; it’s just coming up with a term that has the most negative connotation.
I suppose when your party is sliding headlong into oblivion, you’ll try anything to get the public’s attention. This has a nice ring of desperation about it.
