Texas Gov. Rick Perry ginned up the teabaggers with talk about the “oppression” of Washington and the federal government, and even making noises about “secession,” but he’s certainly willing to turn to them when he needs their help.
I realize that Mr. Perry is facing a primary challenge from Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, and I realize that the Republican model nowadays is to suck up shamelessly to the wingnut side of the party in order to try to stay in the headlines, but why can’t he even try to make it hard to fact-check his own rhetoric?
I don’t want Texas to secede; it’s a great state (not to mention where I was born) and a lot of great friends live there, including family. But I certainly wouldn’t mind if Gov. Perry got the hell out of there.
