Spectral Analysis

For someone who was willing to risk the wrath of Rush Limbaugh and the right-wing noise machine to win election to the Senate by switching parties, Sen. Arlen Specter (D?-PA) is not going out of his way to make himself welcome in his new digs. He told David Gregory on Meet the Press on Sunday that he is “not a loyal Democrat.”

As Josh Marshall notes, it’s not a slam-dunk that Mr. Specter will be the Democratic nominee for the Senate in 2010. There is the possibility that he will face a primary challenge from Rep. Joe Sestak and therefore will actually have to work to earn the trust of the Democrats in Pennsylvania. Starting off his first network TV interview since changing sides with the listing of how he has not been a supporter of Democratic policies on the floor of the Senate even since his conversion seems like an odd way to do that.
