Here’s something to argue about over the eggnog:

Which is the best version of A Christmas Carol on film?

I agree with Louis Bayard in Salon.com: the 1984 version with George C. Scott as Scrooge. Yes, Alastair Sim (with or without colorization) is good, but this one really gets it with the depth of the language and the true transformation of the character.
