That Explains It

Even the White House holiday card can’t escape the right-wing nutsery.

A Republican lawmaker with a mission to save Christmas is aiming his latest salvo at President and first lady Obama, who’ve followed in a recent tradition to eliminate the mention of Christmas in the White House holiday cards.

The card selected by the Obamas announces: “Season’s Greetings.” Inside, it reads: “May your family have a joyous holiday season and a new year blessed with hope and happiness.”

But Rep. Henry Brown, R-S.C., said abandoning Christmas at Christmas is just plain wrong.

Mr. Brown is the genius behind the painfully stupid House Resolution in favor of Christmas (which comes apparently after his one in favor of puppies and kitties). However, if he’s going to attack the Obamas for not saying “Merry Christmas” on their card, he might as well go after Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and even George W. Bush who all took care not to offend non-Christian recipients of their greeting card. Yes, even Ronald Reagan didn’t say “Merry Christmas.”

By the way, just to be clear, axial tilting is the reason for the season.
