Question of the Day

With all the pressure on House members to pass the damn bill…

Have you ever written or called your elected representative? Why? What happened?

Yes, many times over the years. I usually get back a form letter thanking me for my “concern” about the issue I wrote/called about. I have a friend who works in a congressman’s office and he says that written letters work, especially if they’re original; not cut and pasted from a form sent out by an interest group. E-mails get less attention, and on-line petitions are treated as spam. Phone calls get counted as either Yes or No on an issue but the arguments made by callers are not taken into account. He says that a person-to-person contact is still the best way to be heard.
