This morning I paid $2.97 at the Marathon on the corner of SW 168th Street and Old Cutler Road in Palmetto Bay. Driving in to downtown Miami I saw prices range from $2.89 at the Westar on US 1 and Douglas Road in Coconut Grove to $3.09 at the Chevron on Red Road near Sunset in South Miami — a 20-cent difference.
I don’t know if the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has had an impact on gas prices yet; the prices have been creeping up for the last month or so, long before the accident. I wouldn’t put it past them, though, to jack the prices up and use that as the excuse; it used to be that every time there was a fire in a trash can at an oil refinery the companies hiked prices. Still, we’re about $1.15 below the all-time high of July 2008.
