In getting ready for my visit to Canada, I’ve been reading the Canadian press. Today I came across a rather interesting story in The Globe and Mail in which Stockwell Day, the Treasury Board president, claimed that unreported crimes are on the rise.
“We’re very concerned … about the increase in the amount of unreported crimes that surveys clearly show are happening,” he said, calling the numbers “alarming.”
If the crimes are unreported, how does he know they are happening? And if surveys show they are happening, wouldn’t that make them “reported”?
