Comcast technicians showed up at my house on Friday night. They checked the outside connections, which were apparently okay, but I was still having channel issues. They returned Saturday morning, still looking for the problem, and told me that they would install a “cricket,” which is a device that monitors the signal strength coming into the TiVo. They promised to do that sometime this week. (I told them that was fine as long as it didn’t make noise when it rubbed its legs together.)
Sunday morning I awoke to no signals at all on any channels through TiVo and a very grainy and noisy picture on the TV that has just basic cable. I e-mailed my new friends at Comcast. By 11:35 the picture on the TiVo set began to come back, just in time for the Tony Curtis retrospective on TCM (Operation Petticoat). At 12:55 it began to go pixilate out, but came back ten minutes later, and with a couple of little hiccups, remained operative for the rest of the day.
On the upside, I’ve been catching up on my reading and writing.
