Can’t You Take a Joke?

Yet another local GOP official is in the news for mailing out a racist e-mail attacking President Obama.

Marilyn Davenport, a Tea Party activist and member of the Orange County Republican Party’s central committee, is drawing fire from people in her own party after circulating a racist email depicting President Barack Obama and his parents as chimpanzees. In the email: “Now you know why — No birth certificate!”

Her defense was … guess what.

Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people–mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it.

For your typical right-wing racist non-apology apology, she hits the trifecta: She was only joking, she is not a racist, and some of her best friends are black. She tops it off by saying that she only meant to send it to her fellow racists, and it’s all the fault of the liberal media that this is a big deal.

By the way, how’s that minority outreach effort going out there in Orange County?
