If It Fits, It Ships… And Fast

Last Saturday I went to the local post office in Independence, Kansas, to mail home some of the stuff — books, a coffee mug, tee-shirt, and tote bag — that I got at the Inge Festival. It was easier than trying to cram it all in my already-stuffed suitcase, and it cost about $14, including the box. When I got home from work on Monday, it was waiting for me by the front door.

It took a little over 48 hours to go all the way from a small town in Kansas to my house in Miami. That’s pretty damn good, especially since the nearest UPS store is in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

So the next time someone holds up the United States Postal Service as a model of government inefficiency… all the other guys should be so inefficient.
