Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) is requesting federal aid to help with the wildfires that are burning across his state.
“Texas is reaching its capacity to respond to these emergencies and is in need of federal assistance,” Perry said in a statement on Monday.
“I urge President (Barack) Obama to approve our request quickly so Texans can continue receiving the resources and support they need as wildfires remain an ongoing threat.”
Ironically, it was Gov. Perry who was once kinda sorta advocating secession for Texas, claiming the federal government was ruining the lives of Texans with their Social Security Ponzi scheme and other means of oppression.
I think the feds should give Texans all the help they need in fighting natural disasters; after all, nature doesn’t know or care about local politics, and karma is bipartisan. But if Texas truly wants to leave the union, let’s make sure they pay us back before they go.
By the way, wasn’t it Gov. Perry who once bragged that Texas and their budget management was the model of sound financial planning and discipline? It turns out it was basically smoke and mirrors; the state is hurting just as badly as all the rest.
There’s a word for that….
