If You’ve Got It, Spend It

Here’s how the U.S. financial situation looks to a friend on the sidelines. From the Globe and Mail:

The federal government does not, by itself, have the resources or the ability to lead the economy out of recovery. A renewed commitment to invest by the private sector is needed. And companies are tying up their cash instead of hiring or upgrading their machinery – for too many, the U.S. economy has become one giant mattress under which any extra dollar is stuffed.

Not a bad idea. If the government can’t — or, thanks to the Republicans, won’t — invest in America, then let the private sector do it. After all, it’s one thing to talk about it on soft and fuzzy commercials, but when it comes to actually doing it, let them put their money where their mouth is.
