Annals of Victimhood

Aw…life is so hard when you’re a white Christian running for office.

Speaking at North Greenville University in South Carolina on Thursday, Anita Perry, the wife of GOP candidate Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), admitted “it’s been a rough month” for her husband’s campaign. “We’ve been brutalized and eaten up and chewed up in the press,” she said.

“It is a comfort to know that I am in this place where I can feel the presence of God. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party,” she said. “So much of that is, I think they look at him because of his faith.”

It’s really hilarious to think that a white Christian in America is the victim of anything other than a raging lack of self-awareness. I seriously doubt that it occurs to Mrs. Perry that the reason her husband is being “brutalized” (hoo, boy) is for anything other than the fact that he’s entered the GOP primary and everyone didn’t immediately drop out or that he’s yet another evangelical who thinks everyone else who isn’t a Jesus-shouter doesn’t deserve to be a citizen.

Maybe it’s because he’s a braggart and a bully. And like most bullies, he’s remarkably thin-skinned.
