We know that Newt Gingrich was paid by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae as a consultant while at the same time was dishing them to filth to build up his Tea Party creds, and of course we all knew he was shtupping his congressional aide (now Mrs. G #3) at the same time he was running the impeachment of Bill Clinton for getting a blow job. So it wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out that he is running his gonzo campaign to cripple Mitt Romney in order to ensure that Barack Obama wins re-election.

It makes perfect sense. Let’s say that Mr. Gingrich comes in second to Mr. Romney in the primaries. (Even if he finishes at the back of the pack, Mr. Gingrich has shown remarkable resilience. He’s not going away.) Mr. Romney, hobbled by the damage inflicted during the primaries (and his own phoniness) loses to Barack Obama, thereby disqualifying him from running in 2016. As the GOP tradition holds, the runner-up always gets the next shot, and that would be Mr. Gingrich, who then gets to run against an open field on both sides. It’s positively brilliant.

Of course, there’s the little matter of the fact that Mr. Gingrich is a pompous and hypocritical megalomaniac of epic proportions, but when you’re a Republican, that’s a feature, not a bug.
