Marc Caputo at the Miami Herald thinks Paul Ryan could be a problem for the Republicans in Florida. Not only is he in favor of drastic changes to Medicare, he also once supported ending the embargo against Cuba.
Ending the embargo is not such a bad idea in and of itself, but it’s the one sure way to alienate a rather vocal segment of the the community here in South Florida. These two points come together rather neatly; the elderly hard-line Cubans depend a lot on government assistance programs like Medicare. And they’re probably still miffed that Romney passed over m’hijo Marco Rubio.
According to the people who count these things, Barack Obama can lose Florida and win re-election, but Mitt Romney cannot lose Florida and win, even if he won every swing state that is now leaning for Obama.
