School For Idiocy

Fox New interviewer Lauren Green was dumbstruck — in all senses of the word — that Reza Aslan, a respected scholar of theology who happens to be a Muslim, would have the temerity to write a book about Jesus.

GREEN: This is an interesting book. Now I want to clarify, you’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?

ASLAN: Well to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees — including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades — who also just happens to be a Muslim. So it’s not that I’m just some Muslim writing about Jesus, I am an expert with a Ph.D in the history of religions…

GREEN: But it still begs the question why would you be interested in the founder of Christianity?

ASLAN: Because it’s my job as an academic. I am a professor of religion, including the New Testament. That’s what I do for a living, actually.

That apparently wasn’t good enough for her.  She went on for nearly ten minutes grilling Dr. Aslan as to why his faith didn’t prejudice his views on Christianity, and for good measure she quoted some notable Islamophobic critics of his work just to prove her point.  View the video here.

Towards the end, she compared it to a Democrat writing a book about Ronald Reagan.

It should be noted that Ms. Green has a degree in piano performance from the University of Minnesota and is also a graduate of Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.  She also competed in the 1985 Miss America pageant.

4 barks and woofs on “School For Idiocy

  1. I’m just tickled by the idea of anyone named ASLAN being a theologian of any kind.

Ms. Green has a degree in piano performance from the University of Minnesota and is also a graduate of Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. IOW she’s good with her hands, on various types of keyboard. I’ll wait until her comparative segment on Steinway v. Yamaha.

“Now I want to clarify, you’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?” [Because no Gud Xtian would ever need to know anything about Teh Mooslums™, so why would they want to know about us?]

    /snark

  2. How do these people get there? I am amazed how we reward stupidity and ignorance. But then, what can anyone expect from Faux News.
