Josh Marshall at TPM has been doing a series on folks who are trying to enroll in Obamacare for real. From my brother, here’s the story about him and his daughter.
So my daughter and I have shopped for her renewal. Her company is offering her an ACA compliant plan that is pretty close to what she has now for a rate increase of — wait for it — $1 / month. From $201 to $202 a month.
I also shopped on healthcare.gov for her (and yes, the site is working) and came up with some plans from Blue Cross that are available to her, ranging from $160/mo to $279/mo. All mirror her current provider’s plans (PacificSource) almost letter for letter.
So the long and short of it is: yes, she got a letter “cancelling” her insurance. Yes, she went on healthcare.gov, and yes, she was able to find other plans. But her current provider wanted to keep her, and so they offered her an ACA compliant plan for a whopping $1/mo more.
But as we both know, it’s a frigging disaster and will kill the USA…
The nation that put a man on the moon and beat the Axis now freaks out when they get an error message on the internet. Sigh.
However, if you’re not happy with Obamacare, there is always the GOP alternative.
